This is the magnificent 2009 recording of the Royal Opera’s production of La Bohème.
The performances here are first-rate. Romanian, Teodor Ilincai’s voice, possessing a brilliant timbre soars with Italian lyricism; Russian soprano, Hibla Gerzmava is a vocally winning Mimi, singing with a lush warm tone; soprano, Inna Dukach (Musetta) delivers a passionate Quando M’en Vo and Gabriele Viviani is an engaging Marcello.
It is a refreshingly traditional production, which holds its own amidst a sea of re-imaginings and explodes with boisterous, youthful energy under Nelsons’s leadership hitting all the emotional high points.
Subtitles: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian. Run time 121 minutes.
